Domestic Violence & Women of Color: The Reality in Numbers

Black Women & IPV

1 in 3 Black women have experienced intimate partner violence in their lifetime. According to the National Domestic Violence Hotline, 45.1% of Black women have experienced physical violence, sexual violence, or stalking by an intimate partner.

Fatal Reality for Black Women

57% of Black women killed by men are victims of domestic violence. The Violence Policy Center's "When Men Murder Women" report provides detailed statistics on this issue

Barriers for Latina Survivors

Barriers for Latina Survivors – Nearly 1 in 3 Latina women (34.4%) experience intimate partner violence in their lifetime, yet they are less likely to seek help due to cultural stigma, fear of deportation, lack of bilingual services, and economic dependence. Many Latina survivors face additional challenges in accessing legal protection and support services, further isolating them from resources that could help.

Hidden Crisis: Indigenous & AAPI Women at Risk

Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) women often experience underreported abuse due to family pressures and cultural expectations. The National Domestic Violence Hotline highlights that up to 55% of Asian women in the U.S. have experienced physical or sexual violence in their lifetime, with cultural factors contributing to underreporting.
